Easy Sweethearts Box DIY – Word & Home

Pack of Valentine's Day Sweethearts candy

Sweethearts candy may be one of the first things I think of when it comes to Valentine’s Day. While I’m not crazy for them as a snack, they are nostalgic and hold fun memories for me! Remember the classroom parties and sharing them with friends? I always LOVED Valentine’s Day parties at school!! This is a fun way to create and keep a special memory alive for the holiday by using these little boxes for an easy Sweethearts box DIY.

Disassembling the box….

The first thing I’m doing is gently pulling the box apart, being careful not to tear because I’ll be gluing it all back together with my hot glue gun.

Next I’ll use my craft blade to carefully cut out the yellow cutie pie heart, being sure to save the candy from inside that I can use in a cute glass jar or container.

Now I’ll trace that yellow heart around a section of Valentine’s scrapbook paper that I like and then cut that section out and set aside to glue on the box a little later.

Here I’m cutting a small rectangle of red card stock to fit the back of the box as shown below. Once it’s cut and I’m sure it fits well I’ll glue it on.

This easy Sweethearts box DIY is starting to come together and I just can’t wait!! Now it’s time to glue the scrapbook paper heart on. You’ll see below that I’ve glued it to a pink card stock heart.

The trim of the pink card stock will be the guide of where I’ll add a bead of glue and then some pretty pink glitter. You know how much I love a little bling!!

Putting it back together…

Finally I’m ready to carefully glue the box back together using my hot glue gun or hot glue pen.

Before I glue the top closed I want to punch two small hole with a hole punch.

I have some silver pipe cleaners that I’ll cut in half and use as a handle, securing each end into the box with hot glue. To add a little more vintage look I’m brushing some Mod Podge on the front of the box and sprinkling it with more glitter. I just LOVE the effect!
