Did you know that even if a Dollar Tree item doesn’t fit your style, the piece could make a great form for you to create something you LOVE?!? If you’d like to know more be sure to stick around because I’m showing you how to create easy Dollar Tree primitive candy canes from a Dollar Tree find!

First off, I love a little bit of tinsel, but maybe not this much. I’ll start by removing the tinsel from the candy cane form. Make you save this because it will come in handy for Christmas projects!!

Now, we will need some light colored material to wrap back around the candy canes. I’ll be using Dollar Tree flour sack towels torn into strips for this part, but you could use material too. As you wrap just add small dots of glue to secure.

When finished wrapping and securing the material, submerge the candy canes into a mixture of coffee and a little vanilla to for a primitive look.

Set the candy canes aside and allow to dry. If it’s warm outside laying them in the sun for a few hours works wonderfully! During the drying time start ripping red material into thin strips and gather your embellishment, such as rusty bells, greenery, pine cones, and paper tags.

Once the wrapped candy canes are dry, start wrapping the red strips around and secure with a little glue.

Adding Embellishments
Finally, we can add any embellishments we like to the center. I’ll be using rusty bells, Christmas greenery, a small Dollar Tree pine cone, and a paper tag with rusty safety pin.

I LOVE all the small details on this piece!! What do you think about it?? Let me know if you try these easy Dollar Tree primitive candy canes!! I would love to know if you were inspired to create some for yourself!!
