So, I have a confession to make. I absolutely LOVE scrapbook paper, seriously. When it’s on sale at Hobby Lobby I can stand on the aisle perusing for an HOUR, easily. I just love pretty paper so much!! That being said, when I saw butterflies on Pinterest, I just knew this would be the perfect way to use some of my favorite paper! Let me show you this EASY 3-D paper butterfly tutorial!!
The first thing you’ll need to do is choose your favorite paper. I’m using scrapbook paper but you could use old book pages (how cool!!) if you’d like. I love the handwriting on this paper and have been looking for the perfect opportunity to use it!!

You’ll also need:
- Butterfly shape (I used my Cricut to cut mine from poster board)
- String or pipe cleaner
- Mod Podge
- Glue
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Glitter
The very first thing to do is trace and cut three butterfly shapes from the paper. I’ll trace the three shapes on the backside of the scrapbook paper and then cut them out.

Once all three butterflies are cut out, lay one butterfly out flat and crease the other two butterflies at the wings, as shown below. This will crease will give your top two layers the 3-D effect.

Next you are ready to glue your second butterfly on top of your first by adding a bead of craft glue on the backside of the second butterfly and placing it on top.

Now you will just repeat the same step with the last butterfly to complete the easy 3-D butterfly!

Now we can add the antennae by cutting two small sections of string and gluing them on the backside of the butterfly. This where you can use silver, gold, or any color of pipe cleaner to add a little sass if you’d like!

It’s almost finished, but it needs a little something. I’ll use some Mod Podge to adhere glitter to the body and the wind edges.

It’s all finished up and ready for the perfect spot! This easy 3-D paper butterfly tutorial is finished and will make a big impact! I love the simplicity and it will add the perfect touch to any spring decor!!
