There’s something about Christmas bells in your holiday decor that I just LOVE, so I wanted to create some for myself! I’ve created large sleigh bells using Dollar Tree plastic bowls before, but what about using metal bowls?? Let’s go create our own metal Dollar Tree Christmas bells!
First, I grabbed these metal bowls at Dollar Tree for $1.25 each. I found two sizes so I can make a smaller and larger bell. I’m using four of the bowls.
Next, I’ll use E-6000 to glue the two small bowls together and the two larger bowls together. These will need to sit for a few hours for the glue to set.
Once the glue is set, I’ll need to attach a ring to the top for rope or ribbon to string through and hang. I found these shower rings at Hobby Lobby for $1.79 for six. I’ll use a drop of hot glue to attach them so they sit up, and then add permanent glue around the the base of the ring.
When the glue has dried around the base of the ring go ahead and spray paint the whole bell black or brown. On a side note, I found that the smaller bowls seemed to fit together better than the larger bowls.
Now it’s time to add a gold or bronze on top and I’m using a metallic bronze that I already had on hand.
I’ll brush on a light coat at first, and allow it to almost dry. Then, I’ll brush on a second coat and dab it with a damp paper towel, causing a dappling effect.
As I worked on the paint technique, I found it easiest to work on the top, allow it to dry, and then complete the bottom of the Dollar Tree Christmas bells.
Adding the Extras…
Finishing up our Dollar Tree Christmas bells we’ll need to add four faux holes using black acrylic paint. I’ll start by using a permanent marker to outline the holes, then fill them in with paint.
When the paint is completely dry, spray a sealer onto the bells to seal.
Finally, I grabbed some of this Dollar Tree rope to hang the bells. I wanted to darken it just a bit, so I used some coffee to stain it just a bit darker. After it was dry I pulled the rope through the ring of each bell to hang.
