Dollar Tree Oversized Christmas Sleigh Bell

I just LOVE the look of sleigh bells and greenery at Christmas and I’ve been dreaming of adding some to my mantle for a while now. I loved last years mantle, but this year I want to mix things up a bit!! I’m pulling out all of my decor to deck the halls, so I thought I’d try my hand at a Dollar Tree Oversized Christmas Sleigh Bell!!

What we need from Dollar Tree…

I grabbed some of these white bowls from Dollar Tree for $1.00 each. My Dollar Tree had three sizes so I bought some of each size to create three different sized bells.

The first thing I’ll do is glue two same sized bowls together using E-6000 and a little hot glue.

Once my glue is applied I’ll put the bowls together to form a bell shape.

The hot glue will give me an immediate hold and the E-6000 will provide a permanent hold once it’s dry. Now we’re ready to add a top!! I’m using a recycled dog food can and some wire for the top section.

I’ll drill a hole in each side of the can and then insert a piece of wire.

Wrap each end of wire around a pen to curl. This will help hold the wire in place. I’ll add hot glue to each end as well to secure.

Finally, I’ll just use my E-6000 to attach the can to the top.

Once the glue has had time to dry I’m ready to paint. I have some brown spray paint in the color Espresso on hand so that’s what I’ll be using.

More paint….

When the brown spray paint is completely dry I’m going to use some Waverly chalk paint in ivory on top. I’m choosing the calk paint because I’m going to sand some of it off, allowing the brown to shine through in spots. I want the bell to look rusty and rustic.

I’m using a sanding block to sand the chalk paint off in some areas and expose the brown paint underneath.

I want a little more brown visible so I’m going to use some brown acrylic paint.

I’ll brush on the brown paint and then use a damp rag to remove excess.

Once I have the look I’m going for, I’ll use black acrylic paint to finish off the bell details. I like to outline first, and then go back and fill in with paint. Do this four time around the bottom of the bell.

Once all the details are painted and dry, I’m going to spray the bell with a top coat for protection.

Greenery and a bow….

Finally I’m ready to pretty up this Dollar Tree oversized sleigh bell! I’m adding some greenery from Walmart and a pretty bow!! I’ll use hot glue to attach everything.
