Dollar Tree acorn, yellow scrapbook paper, and a faux Dollar Tree tin tile

I’m using a Dollar Tree faux tile and pretty scrapbook paper to give this acorn new life!! I’ll start by tracing the bottom of the acorn onto the scrapbook paper and then cutting the paper out.

Add a layer of Mod Podge on the back of the acorn and allow to dry. Then lay the piece of paper on top, cover with a piece of parchment paper and iron it on.

Adding the acorn top….

I’m using the faux tile for the top of the acorn and I’ll be tracing the top onto the back of the tile, then cutting it out. If you love this tile be sure to go see this EASY way to incorporate one into your decor!!

I pulled the sticky back away from the tile and then used hot glue to attach it to the top of the acorn. I’m painting it brown using Folk Art matte in Real Brown.

Adding some rust…

Now for the FUN part!! I’ll add the look of rust by using Mod Podge and cinnamon. The process is simple, brush Mod Podge on the area you want to appear rusted and then dab on cinnamon. Repeat the process until you get the look you’re going for.

I absolutely LOVE the look of this faux rust!! I even added some to look as though it rusted down onto the bottom of the acorn. I’ll add some spray glue as a top coat.

finishing touch…

The last thing I want to add is a pretty rag bow using torn strips of my favorite material and raffia!!
