Decoupaged Summer Watermelon Sign

Can you believe it’s July and Independence Day is over?!? But guess what? I’m not finished with summer quite yet!! I want to re-style my tiered tray and it definitely needs a summer vibe that will carry me through until September! These little watermelon napkins came from Big Lots and I think one will be perfect to create a decoupaged summer sign to use in my tray.

This little napkin is 2-ply, so the first thing I’ll need to so is pull the 2 plys apart.

After separating the plys, I’ll discard the white piece. Next, I’ll brush some Mod Podge on my little clearance sign (you can see the details about it here) and tap my napkin down.

I have found that if I tap instead of rub I tend to have less tears in my napkin. Once I have my napkin on, I’ll set it aside to dry a bit and work on a bow to add.

I’ll be making a cute little Re-Fabbed bow to attach to the sign. It’s a simple process using several different ribbons, stacking pieces on top of one another in an X pattern.

Lay a piece of jute on top and in the center of the X, Flip it over and tie the jute in a knot to secure. Then just trim the ribbons to the desired length. I’ll add some raffia on top with a dab of hot glue for a little more dimension.

How Cute is this little bow?!?

The bow is finished so we can set it aside and go back to finish the sign. You’ll notice the napkin hangs over the sign just a bit. This is an easy fix and one of my favorite parts!! I’ll use a sanding block to sand along the crease you see here and the excess will fall right off!!

Once the napkin edges are removed you are ready to add a final coat of Mod Podge and then attach some ribbon and the bow.

This step is easy but will give the sign a little something extra!! Using a hot glue gun, I’ll run a bead of hot glue down each side of the sign to attach this black and white buffalo check ribbon.

We are almost finished!! The final step is to add the little bow.

I’m loving the way it all came together!! The ribbons and napkin compliment each other perfectly!! Can you believe this is a napkin?!?

Thanks so much for stopping in, and I hope you leave inspired to make your own beautiful decor!! See you next time!!
