Hello all!! I’m so excited that sunny days are coming!! Tomorrow and the next day are looking to be beautiful and I’m in the mood for spring!! So, when I saw this little house shaped sign at Michael’s I decided I needed to transform it into a little spring and summer reversible sign. It’s going to be so cute you guys!!
- small house shaped block ($1 from Michael’s)
- acrylic paint (Red, yellow, white, black, green)
- vinyl lettering “hello spring” and “hello summer”
- small wood slice (split in half)
- Mod Podge
- 1 piece scrapbook paper
First, trace your house twice on the back of the scrapbook paper and then cut both shapes out.
Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to both sides of your house being sure to smooth out the surface. Set aside to dry and paint both pieces of the wood slice. One wood slice will be painted red to look like a watermelon slice, while the second piece will be painted yellow to look like a lemon.
I’ll use the smallest wood slice. I used my drill to make holes down the middle in order to break it more easily. For the watermelon slice I trimmed the edge of the wood slice green to look like a rind and then added black dots with a toothpick. For the lemon slice I’ll paint it yellow and add white dots for the seeds.
While the paint is drying on the watermelon and lemon, go back and sand the edges of the house to remove any excess scrapbook paper. You can paint the sides of the house with the white acrylic paint. This can be done before or after you’ve applied your scrapbook paper. Once the edges are dry, you are ready to add the vinyl wording. You can use stickers or a stencil for this part as well.
The last step is to wrap the jute around the bottom of the house and then hot glue the watermelon and lemon shapes on. I’ll put a dab of hot glue on the side of the house and attach the end of the jute in order to begin wrapping.
As you wrap you don’t need to be uniform, it has a more whimsical look if you overlap. After you’ve wrapped the jute around several times, simply add another drop of hot glue to the end in order to secure. Now all you need to do is glue your watermelon and lemon shapes on.
This little spring and summer reversible sign would be perfect in a tiered tray of just on a shelf. I think it turned out so darn cute!! I’m so glad you stopped by and hope you leave inspired!
