I found this little DIY letter board from Dollar Tree for $1.25. I knew immediately it would make a quick and easy make-over for Valentine’s Day! I’ll combine this piece with some spray paint and distress ink to create a neutral Dollar Tree heart letter board make-over.

The first thing to do is paint this Dollar Tree piece with spray paint. I’ll be using Rust-Oleum in Blossom White. This takes several coats with dry time in between coats. The piece will take several hours to overnight to dry.

Once the paint is completely dry and no longer tacky I want to “grunge” up the piece a bit by adding some Behr wax in Dark Antique color.

Next, I’ll be using some of the letters that were included with the heart letter board. I’ll “grunge” those as well. I’m using letters to spell “Love You” but there are plenty of letters to use different phrases.

When the letters are “grunged” and dry they can easily slide between the slats on the heart board to be held in place.

Adding the Finishing Touch
Lastly, I want to add a little something else to this piece and decide on a bow made from pretty Dollar Tree ribbon. The bow is the perfect finishing touch and it will add just the right pop of color.

This piece is the perfect combination of neutral and subtle color that I prefer for Valentine’s Day and it can be quickly and easily created to add to your decor. These types of pieces are my favorite because they can be used over and over each year and fit easily into most decor styles. I’d love to hear if you felt inspired to try this DIY. Enjoy!
