DIY Textured Heart Canvas – Word & Home

Do you love a DIY project with texture as much as I do? I don’t add a lot of Valentine’s decor to my home, so what I choose to display has to POP, just like this simple textured heart canvas. Stay tuned and follow along below to learn this easy process!

We’ll start with this clearance canvas I picked up at Hobby Lobby for $1.29. It’s perfect for this project since it already has a rough texture to start. Any flat surface can be used for this project, such as a clearance sign or even blank canvas.

First we need to cover the surface and I’m using this thick body paint from Hobby Lobby, but any paint, acrylic or chalk, can be used. You can see below that I didn’t cover the canvas completely, leaving a few darker spots.

Once the paint is dry, I’ll apply a pretty thick layer of join compound onto the canvas, creating a heart shape. This particular compound applies pink, but it dries white.

Now we’re ready to paint the textured heart and I’ve chosen a metallic gold.

Next I’ll add some accent marks around the heart and gold to the edges of the canvas. I’ll use a pen or marker to write scripture up the side of the heart. I’ve chosen 1 Peter 4:8 for this project.

Now we can call this textured heart canvas complete and I love how it turned out, simple and beautiful! Let me know what you think about this one. Is it something you’d try and display in your home?
