Have you noticed all the cute flip flops at Dollar Tree lately? I’ve been seeing them a lot, and you know I LOVE to craft with all things Dollar Tree, so why not try something new?? I gained inspiration from a piece I saw in a catalog and thought how easy it would be to create it myself!! This time around we’ll be trying our hand at a Dollar Tree flip flop patio sign friends!! Let’s get started!!

I’m using kid’s flip flops so they will be a little smaller, but you could use adult flip flops too!! These are adorable aren’t they?? I have something a little different in mind though! I’ll be combining these with two packages of nautical rope and paint to create a cute patio piece!!

Prepping the flip flops…
This project will require all four flip flops and the first thing to do is paint each one! I’m using Waverly white chalk paint, Apple Barrel Cloudless, Apple Barrel Laguna, and Ceramcoat in Midnight Dream. I’ll give the top and sides of each flip flop two coats of paint.

Cut the plastic piece off the top of each flip flop, paint, and allow to dry.

Adding the rope…
The next step is to add rope back where we removed the plastic. The nautical rope is a little thick when folded, but I’m able to push it through the top hole with the end of a paint brush. This part takes a bit of work but totally worth it!!

Add some hot glue to the back of the flip flop where the end of the rope comes through in order to hold it in place. I’ll go ahead and add some to the front as well since I’ll be adding something on top and you won’t see the glue.

Adding the details…
I’m using stamps to add my wording and even though I showed above how I added the rope, I would do this part first. I found these stamps at Hobby Lobby on clearance last year!! What a find!! I’m using paint to stamp words, but you could use ink instead.

Once the words are stamped and the rope is added to each flip flop we need to attach them together to hang. I’ll use the second package of Dollar Tree rope for this part. I also added some fun details to each flip flop using some Dollar Tree wood flowers. You could use any shape or object for this part. I painted some white, and some Laguna and added glitter. So fun!!

I laid my section of rope out as shown here and then placed the flip flops on top where I wanted them. Then I just hot glued the flip flops to the rope. I narrowed the rope a little at the top as you can see below.

The last thing I’ll do is tie a loop in the top of the rope so it will hang easier. So cute and cheery! I love these colors for summertime!! How about you??
