Patriotic Stuffed Stars – Word & Home

Need an idea that’s red, white, and blue and perfect for your dough bowl? These patriotic stuffed stars are the perfect addition for your holiday decor and are quick and easy to assemble. Gather your supplies and let’s create together!

First, you’ll need some white or cream colored material, thicker is better for this DIY. You’ll need enough material to cut and create several large stars. I’m wanting a more primitive look so I’m soaking mine in coffee, a splash of vanilla, a few sprinkles of cinnamon, and some coffee grounds.

Submerge the material and let it sit for at least 30 minutes and then lay it out to dry. I lay mine out in the sun and it dries fairly quickly.

While the material is drying print this star shape and then trace it onto cardboard. Cut it out and you will have a template to trace your stars onto the material.

Once all the stars are traced and cut they can be glued together using hot glue. Glue the top three points first and then add some stuffing. Finish gluing the last two star points as you fill the star. A blade can be used to pull and fray the edges like the image above if desired or this part can be skipped.

Finally, stamped tags can be added, along with rusty safety pins. Other embellishment options might include bakers twine along rusty stars and bells.
