Grab yourself a plastic Dollar Tree shovel for this easy Dollar Tree patriotic plastic shovel DIY and combine it with your favorite red, white, and blue napkin to add festive summer decor to your home!

Initially I’ll need to paint the inside of the shovel white using acrylic paint. I used a few coats allowing drying time between each coat to get good coverage.

After the paint is completely dry it’s time to decoupage the layer. I’ll cut the truck from the napkin and separate the plys, using only the top ply.

Next, brush on Mod Podge and gently press the napkin layer down smoothly. I’ll use excess Mod Podge on the brush to brush the edges down.

Now I’ll add some dark wax to age the project just a bit, adding it to the shovel and image.

Now I’ll finish off the project with a bow created from Dollar Tree ribbon. I’ll use five red, white, and blue ribbon lengths about 18 inches long. Fold each length of ribbon with ends overlapping, stack together and secure in the middle with zip tie. This ribbon is really amazing for the price point and makes amazing bows!

Finally, I’m ready to add a fun tag with “1776” stamped onto it. I used a piece of jute to tie the tag around the center of the bow before hot gluing the bow to the shovel. This bow really puts this Dollar Tree Patriotic Plastic Shovel DIY over the top! I hope you enjoyed this DIY and be sure to check out the links to more patriotic projects below!
