DIY Wood Patriotic Firecrackers – Word & Home

If you LOVE an easy DIY project keep reading because this one is perfect for the 4th and all summer long. These DIY wood patriotic fireworks look perfect sitting in a simple Dollar Tree mini crate and they can be created and put together quickly!

Walmart dowel cut into sections and Dollar Tree mini wood crate

First, I’ll gather my supplies, including a 7/8″ dowel rod measuring 36 inches long from Walmart and a wood mini crate from Dollar Tree. I’ll use a miter saw to cut the dowel rod into 5″, 4.5″, and 3″ sections. I cut two sets of firecrackers and had two 5″ sections left over for other projects. I’ll also drill a shallow hole into the top of each section.

Next, I’ll paint the sections using red, white, and blue acrylic paint. To add a distressed look I’ll sand the sections a bit and add some distress ink before hot gluing a small section of jute string to the top of each section.

Then I’ll move on to the crate and paint it red, white, and blue all the way around. The crate has grooves to separate the three sections so it’s pretty easy to paint. I’ll sand the crate to distress and add some dark wax as well. I also used a printable on tissue paper to attach to the front of the crate. You can download it here for your personal use.

Putting Everything Together

Finally, I’ll use strips of material to tie together two sets of three firecrackers and add those to the crate with some Spanish moss. I had a few wooden stars in my stash and added those to the crate as well. I love how these DIY wood patriotic fireworks turned out and they look amazing sitting on a shelf or in a tiered tray. Do you think you’ll try this one? Be sure to let me know!
