Pottery Barn DIY Dupe Spring Bunny – Word & Home

I LOVE to look at Pottery Barn decor but I can never make myself spend the money! They have the sweetest terracotta bunny sculptures for spring but they are priced at about $40.00 each. I just can’t justify spending that much on them, but conveniently enough I spotted a $3.00 bunny at Dollar General that will work for what I have in mind for a DIY dupe spring bunny.

Dollar General $3.00 bunny

First of all, this little guy was screaming for a make-over. I loved the form and he even has a cement look to him without the weight. I scooped him up for $3.00 and proceeded to check out!!

Here’s What Else You’ll Need…..

Supplies Needed:

  • Waverly Chalk Paint in Ivory and Snow White
  • FolkArt Matte Acrylic Paint in Cinnamon
  • Crafter’s Collection Acrylic Paint in Antique Nickel
  • Painters/Masking Tape
  • Sanding Block

Once the supplies are gathered I’ll use some of the painter’s tape to wrap around his glasses to protect from paint. Then I’ll give the bunny a coat of the Waverly Ivory chalk paint and allow it to dry. I’ll use two coats for good coverage.

Next I want to add some darker paint (FolkArt Cinnamon) onto the bunny, really focusing on the crevices. I’ll take my time to blend the paint in with a paint brush. I’ll also dab some of the Snow White onto the bunny in a few places.

Now I want the book in his hands to be set apart, so I’m painting it Snow White and then using some of the Antique Nickel and blending to add some shading.

Finally, I’ll use the sander to sand off a few spots to expose the gray paint that was the initial bunny color. This will give it a nice aged and distressed look.

I’m just really happy with the finished project. He has a nice vintage distress with lots of texture for my spring decor AND he was only $3.00! What did you think about this easy spring DIY? Do you think you’ll give this DIY dupe spring bunny a try?
