Summer is my absolute favorite season and nothing says summer like bright and cheerful pinwheels! Today I’m going to show you how I created an easy scrapbook paper pinwheel for the Fourth of July to add some pretty red, white, and blue to my home.

First I needed some pretty patriotic paper so I grabbed these two prints from Hobby Lobby. Ideally, double sided paper would be best, but it wasn’t an option so I’ll be improvising by gluing these two prints back to back using a glue stick.

I’ll be sure to use plenty of glue, covering the edges and corners well so that the papers don’t come apart later. After the two sheets are pressed together I’ll lay them flat and cover with something heavy to dry overnight.

Next, I’ll need to cut the pieces down to a 8.5″ X 8.5″ square.

Creating The Pinwheel
Now I’ll use a pencil to a straight light from corner to corner creating an X on the squared paper. Then I’ll use scissors to cut from each corner half way to the center.

Then I’ll pull every other section in toward the middle as shown below. I’ll add a drop of hot glue to secure each piece to the center.

Finally, it’s starting to look like a pinwheel! I’ll add a half wood bead that has been stained to the middle.

Finishing up, I’m gluing a stained wood skewer to the back of each easy scrapbook paper pinwheel.

I really LOVE the floral print combined with the stars for the Fourth of July! I can’t wait to try different prints and papers using this same method. Let me know if you try!
