Dollar Tree Foam Die Scarecrow DIY

It’s still hot outside but fall is coming, so I’m ready to add some budget friendly decor here and there. These Dollar Tree foam dice are super versatile for crafting and I think they will be perfect for a fun scarecrow that I can use in my tiered tray! Let’s get started on our Dollar Tree foam die scarecrow DIY.

Dollar Tree dice and Dollar Tree wood lantern

Here’s what I’ll be using for this DIY.

  • Foam Dollar Tree Dice
  • Dollar Tree Wood Lantern
  • Raffia
  • Burlap
  • Cashew/Black/White/Light Pink/Orange Paint
  • Black Sharpie
  • White Paint Pen
  • Small Square of Material
  • Hot Glue

First, give the die a good coat of Waverly Chalk paint in Cashew. I used three coats to get good coverage. Then it’s time to add the face.

Begin by tracing the eyes with a marker. You’ll notice my paint cracked a little bit here, but I think it will add character to the scarecrow. I’ll use black acrylic paint to fill in the eyes and a white paint pen to add accent marks.

Now add a nose using orange paint (I’m using Anita’s Pumpkin.) and mouth using the black marker.

Use the black marker to add eye lashes and stitch marks to the nose.

Finally, use the pink paint to add blush to the cheeks.

Hot glue the raffia on top of the die.

Next we’ll be using this piece of burlap that measures approximately 9 inches by 5.5 inches. Wrap the burlap around the top of the die, securing with hot glue.

Now I’ll trim the top, add some raffia, and tie with jute.

Finish the Dollar Tree foam die scarecrow DIY by adding a small square of material to the hat. Use the marker to add black marks for “stitching.”

Now that the scarecrow is finished we’ll work on the lantern by adding some raffia and then hot gluing the die to the top.

The last thing I want to do is add a small section of this Dollar Tree hula skirt around the top of the lantern. I trimmed it shorter and then attached it with hot glue.

This little lantern has a light so I turned it on once the scarecrow was complete. I just love how this turned out you guys!!

One last thing, if you can’t find the lantern or another item for a base you can display this scarecrow on wood slices or alone. If you can’t find the Dollar Tree hula skirt to wrap around the neck, just use more raffia. It’s super sweet either way!
